  • What causes bad breath?

    • The mouth is filled with bacteria, and more often than not, a dirty mouth is what causes bad breath.

    • Food often gets trapped between the teeth and along the gum line, which then becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. When this area is not cleaned, bad breath occurs.

    • Another common cause is eating food that has a strong odor, such as garlic, onions, and even alcohol. These types of food create a bad odor in your mouth, and some of them are absorbed by your body and enter the bloodstream, causing you to breathe the odors through your lungs.

    • Occasionally, bad breath can be a sign of a serious illness, such as diabetes, liver failure or kidney disease.

  • How to get rid of bad breath?

You can change your daily habits to combat bad breath in the following ways:

  • How to prevent bad breath?

    • Visiting your dental hygienist for professional cleaning, brushing your teeth after every meal, flossing at least once per day, and using mouthwash regularly can reduce or eliminate bad breath in many cases.

    • Suppose your bad breath results from a chronic issue such as tooth decay or illness. In that case, you'll need to see a healthcare professional because gum and mouthwash will only mask the problem for a little while.

    • In most cases, the prognosis for chronic halitosis is good.

Taking steps to determine the cause of your bad breath, improving oral care, and changing diet and habits can lead to fresher breath, and that's something to smile about!

  • Does a mouthwash help?

There are many potential benefits of Mouthwash, but these benefits depend on its ingredients and how you're using it. Depending on the type of Mouthwash, some of the benefits include:

    • Fresh breath

    • Reducing plaque and/or gingivitis

    • Teeth whitening

    • Providing antimicrobial benefits to the mouth

    • Soothing dry mouth

    • Providing fluoride to strengthen the enamel of teeth

  • What mouthwash should I use?

    • It will help if you choose a mouthwash designed to help you with your oral care needs.

    •  If you're merely concerned about bad breath, a cosmetic mouthwash with a flavor you enjoy will be easy enough to find.

    • If you want to fight off bacteria, look for words on the bottles like antiplaque, antigingivitis, antibacterial or antimicrobial. Look for the American Dental Association's ADA Seal of Acceptance for approved products that fight plaque and gingivitis.

    • If you need to choose a mouthwash for your children, adult products may not be suitable.

    • Choose a mouthwash that your child enjoys using and demonstrate how to rinse correctly so they don't accidentally swallow it.

There are so many types of Mouthwash available, so you can find a product that suits your needs.

  • When should I use Mouthwash?

Mouthwash may be known for freshening your breath, but it is best when you use it along with your toothpaste & toothbrush, to provide many other oral care benefits.

  • When should I floss?

    Floss Once a Day

To complete your Fresh breath journey don't forget to floss. Doing this at least once a day will get rid of plaque hiding between the teeth. Flossing is as important as brushing because tiny food particles can become trapped in these areas. Once you have reached every tooth discard the used floss, do not reuse it.

You may experience bleeding gums when you first begin to floss. This is normal and it should stop soon, but if it persists and is severe, you should consult with your dentist as soon as possible.

Use about 18" of floss, leaving an inch or two to work with.

Gently follow the curves of your teeth.

Be sure to clean beneath the gumline, but avoid snapping the floss on the gums
